Video Analysis

We was asked to go away and choose a video that fits in the genre we have chosen and i chose N - Dubz - I Need You. With this video we was asked to write a brief yet indepth description of the key moments/shots and cannote the techniques and conventions were used.........

Genre Iconography Research

We decided on our song choice, Professor Green - Jungle. He fits into the genre of Rap and Hip Hop so i researched some different forms of media in the genres and analysed the similar and different convention i found.

I then looked at different types of media of our chosen artist and again analysed the iconography apparent.

I then started to research fonts, colours and logos within the genres chosen and analysed them, differentiating what works and doesn't work with the techniques they have used and then drawing a conclusion of ideas that could work for the project.

Music video Research

Well firstly we was asked to chose 3 music videos that we found interesting and enjoyed. My choices were;

30 Seconds To Mars - The Kill

Hadouken - MAD

and

The Streets - Fit but you know it.

I chose 30 Seconds To Mars because it includes all three main types of music videos, these being Narrative, Performance and Abstract. I love this video because it has an introduction which gives you a little insight into what may happen, in this video it is the lead singer of the band saying something mysterious implying something freaky is going to happen. In the video the story is that the band are staying and performing at a hotel. The performance theme comes in because you see the band performing at the hotel whilst engaging and directing it to the camera. The abstract themes in introduced straight from he beginning with a plain black transition with the song title in white writing. Then in the middle of the song another transition in the same style says "One week later" and again at the end saying "The End" These transitions also link the the narrative theme of the video. Abstract is also shown through the unordinary shots, props and editing used. For example someone in a bunny suit engaging in an activity that a real rabbit wouldn't do. The video is very random and you would have to listen to the words a few times to fully understand the video.
